Getting Started
What is Turf Warz?
Turf Warz is a free GPS-based mobile game for iOS and Android that turns your daily dog walk into a competition. When your dog marks their spot on a walk, you tap a button to claim that patch of the neighborhood map. Build your territory, flip your rivals', and climb the leaderboards, walk by walk.
How much does it cost?
Core gameplay is completely free. An optional Premium Subscription unlocks extra features, and you can buy cosmetic items like custom territory colors and map skins. Nothing you buy gives you a competitive advantage. Turf Warz is committed to never being pay-to-win.
When is it launching?
Turf Warz is currently in early access. Join the waitlist on our homepage to get access. Every friend you refer moves you up the line. If you already know a member, ask them for an invite code to skip the waitlist entirely.
What do I need to play?
An iOS or Android phone with GPS, a dog to walk (up to 5 on one account), and shoes.
How the Game Works
How do I claim territory?
Start a walk session in the app. When your dog does their business, tap the Mark Territory button. That claims a 100-meter radius circle on the shared neighborhood map in your color, visible to all other players.
What's a "flip" and how does it work?
When you mark territory another player already owns, a flip battle happens. Your dog's power (Strength + Speed + Endurance, boosted by level) is compared to the defender's. A random roll, weighted by the power difference but capped between 12.5% and 87.5%, decides the winner. Even the strongest dog can lose, and even the weakest has a shot.
Does my territory last forever?
No. All territory decays if you stop walking it. Standard zones last 72 hours, Premium 48 hours, and Landmark zones just 24 hours. Higher-level dogs extend decay time significantly. At Level 80, Standard territory can hold up to 14 days.
Are there limits on how much I can claim?
Yes. Each dog can make up to 5 claims per walk and 10 per day (plus 1 extra per prestige level). Claims need 60 seconds between them and at least 20 meters of movement. This keeps the game grounded in real walking.
What are packs?
Packs are teams of up to 20 dog walkers who hold territory together, share a color on the map, and compete on pack leaderboards. Walking near your packmates' territory earns bonus XP.
Your Dog
How many dogs can I register?
Up to 5 per account. Each has their own stats, XP, level, and attributes. Switch between them for different walks.
How do dogs level up?
Dogs earn XP from claiming territory, winning flips, and completing walks. They level from 1 to 80. At max level, a dog can "prestige," resetting their level for permanent bonuses and a Hall of Fame badge (Bronze through Diamond).
What are dog attributes?
Every dog has three attributes on a 0 to 100 scale that grow from your real walking behavior: Strength from daily walk streaks, Speed from walking pace, and Endurance from longer walks. These directly determine how your dog performs in flip battles.
Privacy & Safety
Can other players see where I am in real time?
No. Never. Your real-time location is never shared with anyone, under any circumstances, regardless of your settings.
What about my home address?
Walk start and end points are automatically blurred by up to 1 mile (you control the radius). Walk routes and territory only become visible after a walk ends. We strongly recommend keeping walk obfuscation enabled.
Can I hide my territory from other players?
Yes. Set Territory Visibility to Public, Buddies Only, or Private (ghost mode). You can also go Anonymous so your name and dog photo don't appear on claimed hexes. You can block individual players, which is mutual. They disappear from your map, and you from theirs.
Is the game safe to play while walking?
The app has a speed lock that disables claiming if you go above 12 km/h (to prevent use while driving or biking) and geofences off schools, hospitals, playgrounds, cemeteries, and military bases. But the real responsibility is yours. Keep your eyes up, stay aware, and never prioritize gameplay over safety.
How are my dog's welfare needs protected?
The app includes optional rest and water break reminders, daily point caps, session length warnings, and weather alerts. But these are informational only. You're responsible for monitoring your dog's condition and ending walks when needed.
Accounts & Family
Can my family share an account?
Yes. A family account lets up to 8 family members share the household's dog profiles, each with their own login. Family members must start walks within 10 km of the primary user's last walk location.
Can kids play?
The minimum age for users is 13 years. Users 13 to 17 require family account supervision. The parent has full visibility into all family member activity.
How do I delete my account?
Through the account settings in the app, or by emailing [email protected]. Your data will be deleted within 30 days. Account deletion is permanent.
Fair Play & Cheating
What if someone cheats?
The game actively detects GPS spoofing, teleportation, and impossible movement patterns. Flagged claims are rejected automatically. Confirmed cheating results in account suspension or permanent termination, and can affect your whole pack if it's coordinated.
What if I find a bug?
Report it to [email protected] rather than exploiting it. Confirmed bug reports even unlock achievements.
Early Access
Will my progress carry over to the full launch?
Maybe, but don't count on it. During early access, data resets are possible as we balance gameplay and fix bugs. Early access players do get exclusive rewards (a Founder Badge, an exclusive territory skin, and bonus invite codes) that will carry over.
Will features change?
Yes. Turf Warz is in active development. Scoring, decay rates, leveling curves, and features may change as we refine the game based on player feedback.
